The shore excursion to Pompeii - Herculaneum with wine tasting is ideal for those interested in history and archaeology, who also want to enjoy the flavours of Campania.
The tour takes lasts about 8 hours and is available with departure from your hotel and fromeither your hotel and or from the ports of Amalfi, Sorrento, Salerno, and Naples.
A driver will pick you up at the port with a fully equipped Mercedes with every comfort and insured for your safety.
After a short drive, we will arrive at the first stop of our shore excursion, the ancient archaeological site of Pompeii which was discovered after centuries of excavations that begun in 1748.
The city of Pompeii, buried by the fury of Vesuvius in 79AD, a Unesco World Heritage site from 1997, is one of the most visited archaeological sites in the world.
Here you can visit the ruins with the help of audio guides or follow one of the guides from the Campania region that your driver can contact for you and who will help you discover some of the most famous places of Pompeii: the Villa dei Misteri, the Foro and the patrician houses like Casa del Fauno, Casa degli Amorini Dorati, Casa dei Dioscuri and Casa dei Vettii.
After about 2 hours / 2 hours and half of visit we will continue our tour to Herculaneum, a town that is located south-east of Naples. Herculaneum suffered the same fate as neighboring Pompeii, destroyed by lava in the eruption of 79 AD that buried under a thick layer of mud and eruptive materials of about twenty meters. The medieval city of Resina (the ancient Ercolano) was then built right on this solidified volcanic material.
During the visit to the Archaeological Park of Herculaneum which will last about 1 hour / 1 hour and half, you will be able to see the magnificent domus with mosaic decorations, streets, artifacts and 3D reconstructions of the city before the volcanic eruption. The visit can be carried on with or without a Campania region licensed tour guide.
The last stop of the shore excursion to Pompeii and Herculaneum from Amalfi port, is at the foot of Mount Vesuvius in a winery where you can taste five different Lacryma Christi wines accompanied by typical dishes from Campania region: salami and cheeses, tomato bruschetta, spaghetti with tomato and fresh basil and extra virgin olive oil and typical desserts from Campania like the "pastiera", a sweet pastry filled with cream and corn cooked in milk which is traditionally prepared for Easter, which will be served with an apricot liqueur produced on site.
The shore excursion to Pompeii - Herculaneum with wine tasting ends with the return to the Amalfi port at 5:00pm.
